The big word for fall is "FISHING". September and October is a great time to catch those elusive salmon and steelhead. The river is low and beautifully clear green and you can spot them before you throw your line. From the dining room you can watch the fish navigate their way up the North Umpqua River, cleaning their nest in the sand and laying their eggs. You'll see the males coming up and fertilizing the egg beds and protecting them from the steelhead, surprisingly it is all quite fascinating. When the fish come so do the eagles, osprey and fresh water otters. Watch the Canada Geese fly south stopping on the river to rest and feed. All can be taken in quietly resting on the deck or sitting in the dining room with it's large viewing windows of the North Umpqua River and mountains. |

September often is Oregon's warmest month reflecting summer more than fall. In early September raft, swim and extend your summer for a little longer on the North Umpqua. There is still time to catch Crater Lake National Park before the snows. The waterfalls may not be as full as spring but they are still beautiful. The fall colors now replace all the beautiful wild flowers and create a new colorful beauty along the highway. Hunting season starts. For the sportsman this is the perfect time of year for them. Hike, fish, hunt, river raft or just relax, play pool, read a book, watch TV or videos. Labor Day weekend is perfect on the North Umpqua you need to book early. |
